Last year, our silent auction in support of Wigs for Kids BC was an incredible success — and we’re hoping to make an even bigger impact in 2026. From August 21 - September 5, we'll once again be hosting our online silent auction, with proceeds helping to provide wigs and essential items for BC families and children facing some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

We're currently looking for businesses, restaurants, and community partners who would be interested in donating a product, service, experience, or gift card to this year's auction.

Restaurant gift cards are always a favourite, but support in any form is so deeply appreciated. Participating businesses will also be showcased to our growing community of nearly 10,000 supporters throughout the auction. Every contribution — big or small — truly helps make a difference for local families when they need it most.

Message from the Founder

Hi,

I’m the founder and chairperson of the Wigs for Kids BC program in support of BC Children’s Hospital. We’re a volunteer-run charity with no overhead costs—100% of the funds we raise go directly to supporting children in all of BC and their families as they fight and recover from cancer.

We raise funds year-round and are currently seeking donations or gift cards for our upcoming live and silent auctions happening in August 2025. Your support would make a real difference.

Wigs for Kids BC provides free wigs to children in BC who lose their hair due to cancer or other medical conditions. Doctors, social workers, and parents have shared that these wigs are vital in helping children return to school and daily life with confidence.

In addition, we help families cover the costs of:

• Feeding supplies (tubes, pumps, formulas) not covered by MSP—essential for children who can’t eat normally during recovery.
• Life-saving cancer medications that must be taken before chemotherapy but are not publicly funded.
• Transportation to and from treatment, especially for those without a vehicle—ensuring children aren’t taking public transit after intensive treatments.
• Out-of-province medical care—we donate $100,000 annually to help families travel to specialized treatment centers when care isn’t available locally.

Our goal is to relieve some of the financial burden so families can focus on helping their child heal. To continue this work, we need to raise $250,000–$300,000 each year.

Reopening Mail-In Donations

Thank you so much for your patience and understanding, we truly appreciate your support and holding off on cutting and sending your hair in order to donate to Wigs for Kids. We ask that you please mail hair directly to Eva & Co Wigs. The hair donation criteria and mailing address are provided below. Please continue to mail any monetary donations to the Foundation attention Cherie Spence, address is also provided below. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes and thank you for your understanding.

Hair Donation Criteria:

• Hair should be a minimum of 10 inches in length
• Hair should be tied at the top (ponytail) not braided
• Hair should not be dyed, permed or chemically treated
• Grey hair is accepted
• Do not straighten hair – wash and dry please
• Hair should be sent within 3 months of cut date. This has been extended to 5 months for those impacted by social distancing restrictions
• Wigs for Kids is not affiliated with any salon so please feel free to chose any salon you wish to have your hair cut.
• If you would like acknowledgement of receipt of your hair donation please enclose a stamped self addressed envelope with the ponytail.

How to Send Hair:

• Do not put hair in plastic bag
• Hair can be wrapped in tissue or paper towel and put into an envelope
• Please note that we will not be able to acknowledge receipt of your hair donation
• We would be happy to email you a thank you certificate please email kpallan@bcchf.ca with your name and mailing address

Wigs and beyond

Through the fundraising efforts of generous individuals Wigs for Kids is able to make a big impact on the lives of BC’s Kids and families. Each wig costs $1000.00 to make, which is 100% donation funded. Wigs For Kids also provides funding for medications and feeding supplies that are not covered by MSP. Recently Wigs For Kids has also begun supporting more initiatives to help the community, funding a volunteer driving program that drives oncology patients and their families to hospital appointments. This helps families who rely on public transit and taxis to get to and from appointments. Wigs For Kids also supports families with travel costs, whether is out of province travel for treatments or those that need to come from outside of the lower mainland for treatment.
